A Widow’s Dialogue With God

Me: “Hey, God! This widow stuff is tough.”
God: “I know. I’ve got it.”

Me: “This aloneness is getting old. Sometimes I can hardly make it through the day.”
God: “I was with Adam, Eve, Moses, Deborah, Paul, Lydia. Am I not with you also? Read Psalm 16.”

Me: “Sometimes I just want to curl up in the middle of my bed and cry until I can’t cry any more tears.”
God: “It’s okay to feel sad. But don’t dwell in your sadness. Read Psalm 28.”

Me: “I can’t afford a Lexus or an Antarctic cruise or a house with three bedrooms.”
God: “Those are treasures that the world values. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be. Read Psalm 119.”

Me: “Do you ever get tired of hearing me complain?”
God: “I love you, and nothing can ever separate you from my love. Focus on my love. Read Romans 8.”

Me: “Is being a widow an assignment from you?”
God: “You are able to give other widows comfort because I have given you comfort as a widow. Read 2 Corinthians 1.”

Me: “Sometimes I just want someone to tell me I’m pretty and fun and smart.”
God: “You are my own child and my heir. I have chosen you. I have called you by name. You are mine. Read Psalm 139.”

Me: “Thank you for the other widows you’ve brought into my life.”
God: “Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are disciples of Jesus. Read Psalm 68.”

Me: “Why does it take so much of my energy just to get through a day?”
God: “Read Psalm 18. I am your strength. I will never leave your or forsake you.”

Me: “Did you remove the distractions in my life so I’d pay more attention to you?”
God: “I am your Creator and your Redeemer. I am the First and the Last. I want your complete attention. Read Job 38 and 39.”

Me: “This widow stuff is still tough.”
God: “I know. I’ve got it. Just lean on me, and we’ll get through this together.”

In 2015, because of the encouragement of the Launch Out Conference and Jon Acuff, she launched More Than A Widow on Facebook and Twitter. Today she blogs, tweets, and posts to help widows (and those who know them) find encouragement, hope, and resources for the journey. Her goal is to help all widows live beyond the label and live as more than a widow.
