I’ll admit it. I didn’t want VICTORY to be my One Word for 2017. In fact, I’d already chosen another word and was just asking God to approve my choice.
But he had other plans. God firmly planted VICTORY in my mind and heart. So that became my choice. Reluctantly.
I know why I was reluctant. That’s difficult to admit. Because VICTORY implies a battle. Or two. Or three. Or four. Seriously, at the end of 2016, I just wasn’t up for a battle.
“To win any battle, you’ve got to have the right strategy and resources because victories don’t come by accident.” ― Clara, “War Room”
Just two weeks into 2017, I’m already in some battles. Not the kind you can easily observe. The kind that threaten to steal your joy and spin you off onto the wrong path. The kind that aren’t going to end soon. I’ll share more about those later, as the year rolls out.
So Sunday night, I watched the movie “War Room.” Again. I wanted to encounter the faith of Clara, a widow on a mission to save marriages. I wanted to move from anger to love with Elizabeth and Tony. I wanted to see Danielle find her smile again. I wanted to hear the wisdom of Michael as he refused to let his friend give up.
I wanted to experience VICTORY through a movie that teaches so much about how to be victorious.
And I did. And they did. And it did.
“If you want victory, you’re going to have to first surrender. Get your heart right with God. Do your fighting in prayer.” ― Clara, “War Room”
We already know who doesn’t want us to have VICTORY. He’s waiting at every turn to defeat us and steal our joy.
Our God is bigger than he is. Bigger than any battle. Stronger than any sword. Mightier than any charlatan. God is with me, with us. That’s my VICTORY. No matter what I encounter in 2017.
“You’ve got to plead with God so that he can do what only he can do. And then you’ve got to get out of the way and let him do it!” ― Clara, “War Room”
Join me in winning and celebrating victories this year. God is with us. All the time. God wants us to have VICTORY. Jesus is already victorious. For us. What more do we need to fight the battles that come our way?
We know battles will come. We are ready.
If you haven’t seen “War Room,” please watch it. If you have seen it, watch it again.
